Church Farm Cottage - An Introduction

This is a record of the moths recorded at Church Farm Cottage, Thornton, Leicestershire (VC55). Trapping started in 2004 using a 15W actinic trap progressing to my current 80W MV. The garden has been renovated and for the first two years was nothing other than a building site. Now work is almost complete and it benefits from a small lawn, various bedding and rockery plants, large ivy cover to the south wall and a couple of moth friendly additions in the form of Buddleia (Black Knight) and Honeysuckle. The garden is south facing and measures approximately 30ft x 15ft. Trapping has so far been rather infrequent, for various reasons, but 2009 will see a more concerted effort and so far this year (April 2009) I have recorded three new species. Acleris cristana, Purple Thorn and Engrailed. It would be nice to think that by the end of 2009 I might have a more respectable tally approaching the 250 mark.......
